What are the main advantages of potassium formate over oil-based drilling fluids?

Oilfield drilling conditions are close to high temperature and high pressure conditions. Oil-based drilling fluids were used before. Potassium formate drilling fluids have a density of more than 1.60g/cm3. They have been widely used in wells of strong water sensitive formation, easy sticking formation, deep well slim hole formation and complex pressure formation.

To this end, what are the main advantages of potassium formate over oil-based drilling fluids:
(1) Potassium formate drilling fluid will not subside.
(2) When drilling reservoirs, the drilling fluid is in the state of shear dilution and the equivalent circulation density is low during the use of potassium formate. In order to reduce the risk of leakage, the equivalent circulation density is controlled at 1.96g/cm3 and the downhole static drilling fluid density is controlled.
(3) Because of the low solid content in drilling fluid system and the low possibility of solid settlement, the risk of blockage of yarn mesh is low.
(4) Calcium carbonate particles are the plugging materials in drilling fluid.
(5) Low solubility of natural gas.
(6) Potassium formate is environmentally friendly and can be discharged.
(7) Potassium formate drilling fluid has better thermal stability than oil-based drilling fluid.

Potassium formate is easy to absorb water and agglomerate, which makes it difficult to prepare and join, and increases the labor intensity. It is suggested that the production cycle should be known by contacting CDchem to reduce the hardening.
