High quality potassium formate promotes rapid development of drilling fluid technology

Although the solubility of many salts in potassium formate-based drilling fluid is very low, potassium formate solution can better dissolve alkali metal sulfate and sodium chloride, so that when potassium formate-based drilling fluid is drilled in salt or gypsum formations, it will dissolve well wall salt, leading to wellbore collapse or poor wellbore quality.

Therefore, attention should be paid to the effect of potassium formate concentration and temperature on the solubility of sodium chloride and calcium sulfate. With the continuous expansion of petroleum exploitation capacity, the demand for potassium formate is also growing, and the amount of potassium formate used in downhole drilling is also increasing.
