Under the background of reducing resistance, how to use potassium diformate to effectively prevent and control diseases in pigs

 Diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration and other symptoms caused by the swine epidemic virus have a high fatality rate. After the ban on anti-antibiotics, a major challenge for pig sites is the frequent occurrence of bacterial diseases. In this situation, in addition to improving feeding management, timely and precise immunization prevention and control, timely treatment or elimination of diseased pigs, and timely preventive administration, how to use potassium diformate as an alternative to antibiotics to effectively prevent and control diseases.

The application of antibiotics in pig farms mainly plays two roles. On the one hand, it can promote the growth of pigs and reduce the feed-to-weight ratio, thereby reducing the cost of breeding. On the other hand, it is mainly used for disease prevention and control, reducing the prevalence and mortality of pigs at various stages.

Escherichia coli is one of the most "common" pathogens in pig farms, and it is divided into enterotoxigenic and enteropathogenic types. Enterotoxigenic types often cause diarrhea in newborn piglets and post-weaning diarrhea, while enteropathogenic types are mainly post-weaning diarrhea.

Potassium diformate's main disease prevention and control functions:

(1) Improve the environment in the digestive tract, lower the pH of the stomach and small intestine, and promote the growth of beneficial bacteria. 85% of potassium diformate has entered the small intestine in its intact form. The potassium ions released can also improve the utilization of lysine. The unique antimicrobial function is based on the combined action of formic acid and formate. Per unit weight of organic acid, formic acid monocarbonate has the strongest acidity and has a strong antimicrobial effect. Non-dissociated formic acid can penetrate the bacterial cell wall and dissociate within the cell to lower the pH. The formate anion decomposes bacterial cell wall proteins outside the cell wall to play a role in killing bacteria and inhibiting bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella.

(2) Instead of antibiotics, it has the effect of antibacterial and growth-promoting agents. The addition of potassium diformate can significantly reduce the content of anaerobic bacteria, Escherichia coli and Salmonella in the digesta of the digestive tract. Improve the resistance of animals to diseases and reduce the number of deaths caused by bacterial infections;

In recent years, some pig farms have been using potassium diformate instead of antibiotics as growth promoters for disease prevention in weaned piglets, which is conducive to their survival rate in the nursery. It can also improve the intestinal immunity of pigs, and can significantly increase the carcass weight of pigs.
