The basic function of potassium diformate is to solve the problem of diarrhea in piglets

After the winter, the temperature everywhere dropped sharply. People who raise pigs know that winter is the peak of piglet diarrhea. Soon after the piglet is born, the resistance to the virus itself is weak. So the chance of contracting diarrhea is getting higher and higher. Potassium diformate is a growth-promoting agent that can replace antibiotics in solving the problem of diarrhea in piglets, focusing on palatability, acidity, and bacteriostasis.

Let's understand the purpose of using potassium diformate to reduce the acidity of the feed system:

1. Reduce the acidity of feed system.

2. Lower the PH of the gastrointestinal tract and exert antibacterial effect.

3. Reduce the acidity of the feed system, and at the same time reduce the pH of the gastrointestinal tract, exerting antibacterial effects.

4. Use organic formic acid raw materials to make acidulant to reduce the damage to nutrients.

5. Improve palatability and reduce stress.

6. Potassium diformate has acidification and antibacterial functions on the gastrointestinal tract. Regardless of the purpose of use, the use of potassium diformate has two fundamental functions: acidification + antibacterial.

Potassium diformate is also effective in promoting the growth of weaned piglets.

The reason for the inconsistency of the above reports may be related to the composition of the diet (including antibiotics). For example, Paulicks et al. reported that adding potassium diformate to low metabolizable energy diets can increase the body weight and average daily feed intake of weaned piglets, and significantly reduce the feed-to-weight ratio. But it did not improve the growth performance of weaned piglets in the high metabolizable energy group. The study also found that when potassium diformate was added to wheat-containing diets, it could significantly increase the average daily gain, feed intake, and feed conversion rate of weaned piglets, while the effect was not significant when added to corn diets.

Studies have reported that adding 0.6% or 1.0% potassium diformate to the feed of weaned pigs has the same growth-promoting effect as flavomycin and can be effectively compatible with it. Li Zhaoyong and others reported that adding 0.6%, 1.0% and 1.4% potassium diformate to the feed of weaned piglets and found that 1.0% and 1.4% potassium diformate can have the dual effect of acidifier and antibiotic. Windisch and other studies have shown that adding 0.6%, 1.2% and 1.8% potassium diformate to the diet can increase the body weight of weaned piglets and significantly reduce the feed-to-weight ratio, and it is synergistic with low-copper (25 mg/kg) diets Effect, the effect is better with the addition amount of 1.8%. Zhai Zhenya et al. [34] found that the combined use of 1% potassium diformate and 200g/t Bacillus coagulans can significantly increase the average daily gain of weaned piglets and significantly reduce the feed-to-weight ratio. It can be seen from the above that adding potassium diformate to the diet can be effectively compatible with antibiotics, low copper and Bacillus coagulans to further improve the growth performance of piglets.

The feeding of piglets is also more important. It is necessary to adjust the proportion of feed in time according to the life cycle to appropriately increase the proportion of corn in the feed. This is because corn has high energy and can help piglets withstand the severe cold well.

But also pay attention to the quality of feed, wet feed is easy to spoilage and mildew. After the piglet eats this kind of feed, no matter whether the resistance is strong or not, it will have an adverse effect on its body. Therefore, adding a certain amount of potassium diformate can not only protect the intestinal environment of piglets, but also promote the healthy growth of piglets.
