Have you ever seen pigs fed with calcium formate as a feed additive?
Nowadays, when feeding pigs, everyone cares about not only feed, but also feed additives. Nowadays, what makes many pig farmers troublesome is that the price is not proportional to the effect, and it is common to cause economic losses. To improve the utilization rate of feed, it is the most important thing to directly play a nutritional role on animals. So, have you ever seen pigs fed with calcium formate as a feed additive?
As a new type of feed additive, calcium formate can supplement calcium to pigs and is more suitable for weaning piglets. The nutritional effect of calcium formate is mainly achieved by the formic acid that is decomposed in the acid environment of the stomach. It mainly uses the following methods to improve the growth performance of weaned piglets:
1. Lowering the pH of the gastrointestinal tract is beneficial to activate pepsinogen, make up for the insufficient secretion of digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid in the piglet's stomach, and improve the digestibility of feed nutrients.
2. Maintain a low PH value in the gastrointestinal tract, thereby preventing the mass growth and reproduction of E. coli and other pathogenic bacteria, while promoting the growth of some beneficial bacteria (such as lactobacilli). It produces volatile fatty acids in the caecum and nodus to act as antibiotics. In addition, beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus can cover the intestinal mucosa so that it is not invaded by the toxins produced by Escherichia coli, thereby preventing diarrhea related to bacterial infection.
3. It can act as a chelating agent during the digestion process. Calcium formate can promote the absorption of minerals in the intestines, increase the energy utilization of natural metabolites, increase feed conversion rate, prevent diarrhea and diarrhea, and increase piglet survival rate and daily weight gain. At the same time, calcium formate also has the effect of preventing mildew and keeping fresh.
Experiments have shown that adding 0.8~1.5% calcium formate to feed can cover the intestinal mucosa from the invasion of toxins, and control and prevent bacteria-related diarrhea and diarrhea.
Not only that, calcium formate also has a growth-promoting effect. A German study found that adding 1.3% of calcium formate to the piglet's diet can improve the feed conversion rate by 7-8%, adding 0.9% can reduce the occurrence of diarrhea; adding 1.5% can improve the growth rate of piglets by 1.2%, and the feed conversion rate 4 %; adding 1.5% and 175mg/kg copper can increase the growth rate by 21% and the feed conversion rate by 10%.
Therefore, the use of calcium formate as a feed additive for pigs can have the advantages of good digestion, good absorption, and good utilization, and does not require the participation of gastric acid, reducing the use of acidifiers. This reduces the cost of feed.
