Potassium formate plays a major role in drilling and completion fluids, and can be completely dissociated. The surface tension of filtrate is obviously greater than that of potassium chloride drilling and completion fluids, and the flow resistance of infiltration formation is large, which not only inhibits clay hydration, dispersion and expansion. It can prevent formation shrinkage without interfering with electrical measurements, light corrosion and pollution to reservoir.
The preparation and maintenance method of potassium formate system is simple, the performance is superior, the cost is moderate, the borehole wall stability is good, and the borehole diameter expansion rate is only 2.25%. It has good temperature resistance, and its rheological property and filtration capacity have little change under 60 - 180 degrees Celsius conditions, which can meet the needs of field engineering.
